Computer support and workshops
Each Tuesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., computer volunteers are at Hildreth House to help with any technical issues. To avoid waits, call to schedule an appointment. - 10 Strategies for Computer Happiness, Friday, Sept. 14; learn simple techniques for minimizing frustration.
- Introduction to the Cloud, Friday, Sept. 28; learn how to utilize cloud storage.
Acrylic art class
The COA will offer an art class using acrylics, with instruction on how to paint on glass, Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. The class will be led by art student Kelsey Fort.
Book Club for September
Come to Hildreth House Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. to discuss “Life Is So Good.” The book is the autobiography of 103-year-old George Dawson, a slave’s grandson who learned to read at age 98. It offers insights into the history of America, from segregation and civil rights to the wars, presidents, and defining moments of the 20th century. Find the book at the Harvard Public Library or purchase it.
Explore Newport, Rhode Island
Join the COA Wednesday, Sept. 26, to explore Newport, Rhode Island, often referred to as America’s First Resort. The day will include a stop at the Visitor Center, a drive along Ocean Drive and Belleview Avenue to see historic landmarks, mansions, and coastal views, lunch at Belle’s Cafe near Newport Shipyard in the center of town, a stroll along the famous Cliff Walk, and a guided tour and optional wine tasting at Newport Vineyard. The van will leave Hildreth House at 8 a.m. and will be back at 6 p.m. Participants may opt to conduct their own tour/visit for the day.
Senior Day at the Farmers Market
Saturday, Sept. 29, is Senior Day at the Harvard Farmers Market in front of Hildreth Elementary School. SNAP benefits may be used to purchase fresh produce at some vendors. Entertainment will be by Debbie Thompson’s band, “Side Effects.” The COA van will be available for transportation; call 48 hours in advance to sign up for it.
Pilates for seniors
Bodylines Pilates, 325 Ayer Road, offers a gentle pilates class for seniors Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. $40 for four classes. Call the COA for more information or to sign up.
