In the five-week period between July 8 and Aug. 11, the ambulance responded to 37 calls and transported 26 patients to the hospital, eight with Advanced Life Support services on board. The ambulance also responded to nine motor vehicle collisions.
In the same period, the Fire Department received numerous fire calls, as well as joint calls for both fire and emergency medical services. Many calls resulted from alarms that were malfunctioning or had been activated unintentionally. Several other fire calls were canceled en route. The main fire calls are summarized below.
Friday, July 11
At 6:49 p.m. the duty officer investigated a lightning strike near a utility pole on Old Littleton Road; no fire resulted, but the strike led to a four-hour power outage in nearby houses.
Wednesday, July 16
At 3:49 a.m. Engine 2 and the tanker were called to help Boxborough firefighters at a truck fire on Interstate 495 northbound, where the Harvard crew provided water to extinguish the fire.
Monday, July 28
At 10:55 a.m. a carbon monoxide detector went off at a Glenview Drive home. Engine 2 and the tower truck responded. Firefighters found carbon monoxide in the house, coming from a defective hot water heater. They shut down the heater, ventilated the house, and advised the owner to have the water heater serviced.
