The Bromfield boys and girls varsity cross-country teams are once again Midland-Wachusett C League champions. Both teams were first in this year’s competition, held Oct. 25 at Ghiloni Park in Marlborough, an event that brought together all six teams of the C Division. It was the boys’ fifth consecutive league championship and the girls’ fourth.
Bromfield junior Ben McWaters won the boys 5,000-meter varsity race, placing first with a time of 15 minutes, 46.96 seconds and a pace of 5:04.79 per mile. With five runners among the Top 11 finishers, Bromfield’s boys varsity team easily outscored second-place Littleton 30 points to 63 points. Ben McWaters was the individual champion for a second consecutive year. According to boys coach Marisa Steele, McWater’s win is the first time a boy has won the league meet two years in a row since Bromfield runner Price Day repeated in 2012 and 2013.
The varsity girls also had a winning afternoon, beating second-place Lunenburg 40 to 58. Lunenburg junior Olivia Coronella won the varsity race with a time of 18:34.48, but Bromfield senior Rosie Bradley was just 12 seconds behind to take silver with a time of 18:46.34. Sophomore Abby Wool and junior Jacquie Wilkins came in fourth and fifth, both setting personal records, as did freshmen Gina Moussouris and Yana Li, who finished 17th and 20th.
Two Bromfield junior varsity runners also medaled at Saturday’s meet. Sophomore Callia Sintros won the girls Division C junior varsity meet with a time of 22:39.72, followed by ninth-graders Grace McWaters and Lotus Simms who finished second and third. Seventh-grader Ben Stephan won the boys Division C JV meet with a time of 18:31.58.
Saturday’s meet marked the end of the Trojans’ regular season. Next up is the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 Divisional Championship on Nov. 8 followed by the MIAA Division 3 State Championship on Nov. 15. Both events will be held at Devens.
