In the past week, police made 12 motor vehicle stops, five resulting in verbal warnings, six in written warnings or citations, and one in a civil citation, which carries a fine. Officers also made three well-being checks, issued or renewed two firearm permits, helped one person locked out of a car, and responded to two false burglar alarms.
Tuesday, Aug. 12
At 11:11 a.m. a caller reported a minor collision, in which a student driver in a driving school vehicle hit another car while trying to park. At 3:29 p.m. an officer removed a tree branch that was partly blocking Mill Road.
Wednesday, Aug. 13
At 8:56 a.m. a vehicle on Willow Road caught on a utility line and pulled it down; Verizon and Spectrum were notified. At 10:31 a.m. a truck tried to pass some tree work vehicles near the intersection of Stow Road and Haskell Lane. When the truck could not fit through, its driver began to back up and ran into another car. At 8:47 p.m. a 911 caller reported a dead deer on Ayer Road.
Thursday, Aug. 14
At 12:48 a.m. a 911 caller reported an attempted carjacking on Route 117 in Lancaster. At 7:40 a.m. a Still River Road resident reported a stolen truck (see story, page 1). At 1:28 p.m. a caller told police a fluffy white dog was loose on Old Shirley Road.
Friday, Aug. 15
At 10:44 a.m. someone on South Shaker Road said a person was acting suspiciously; the person claimed to be from National Grid but had no identification from the company.
Saturday, Aug. 16
At 11:48 a.m. a report was filed about a case of larceny or fraud. At 4:38 p.m. a 911 caller said a large dog was running loose in traffic on Old Shirley Road; the dog was gone when an officer arrived. At 10:38 p.m. a 911 caller complained about a black car driving erratically on Route 2 westbound.
Sunday, Aug. 17
At 9:52 a.m. a caller said a tree was leaning on a phone line on South Shaker Road; an officer pulled the tree away from the line. At 10:31 p.m. an officer spoke to a group of youths gathered at Bare Hill Pond, reminding them it was too late to be there.
Monday, Aug. 18
At 8:04 a.m. a caller reported a fallen tree on the road near the intersection of Stow Road and Hillcrest Drive; a landscaper removed it. At 9:40 a.m. a Babbitt Lane resident called, wanting the Board of Health to test a bat the resident had killed in the house. At 9:45 a.m. a Fairbank Street resident told police some fishing gear had been stolen from his house. At 9:53 a.m. on Ayer Road, a 39-year-old woman from Hanscom Air Force Base received a summons for driving without a license in an unregistered vehicle and also for failing to stop; her car was towed.
