In the past week, police made eight motor vehicle stops, four resulting in verbal warnings and four in written warnings or citations. Officers also performed a well-being check and a mental health evaluation and responded to four false burglar alarms.
Tuesday, April 29
At 8:42 a.m. someone turned in an iPhone found at the high school tennis courts; the parent of a student subsequently called the phone and reclaimed it. At 10:18 a.m. an Ann Lees Road resident reported being scammed by a fraudulent app. At 2:02 p.m. a caller said someone had stolen a package from the front porch of the caller’s home on Prospect Hill Road; the theft was captured on a security video. At 6:47 p.m. an Old Littleton Road resident told police he had dozed off on the couch, and when he awoke he found his daughter was no longer in the house or the yard. An officer located the girl on a road not far away and brought her home.
Wednesday, April 30
At 11:05 a.m. someone turned in some tree trimming equipment found near the intersection of Shaker and South Shaker roads; no one had claimed it as of May 6. At 4:07 p.m. a caller reported a dead tree leaning on some wires near the intersection of Prospect Hill and Still River roads; there was no immediate hazard, and National Grid was notified.
Thursday, May 1
At 7:44 a.m. a caller asked for a radar check along Still River Road where the caller said cars were speeding. At 8:06 a.m. there was a two-car collision on Ayer Road, but no one was injured. At 10:22 a.m. Ayer police received a 911 call from an Oak Hill Road home that caused them concern, and they asked Harvard police to check on the occupants there. At 10:06 p.m. someone called with suspicions about a truck parked on White Lane; an officer checked, and the driver said they were on a long trip and had pulled over to take a nap.
Friday, May 2
At 12:20 a.m. a Simon Atherton Row resident called, saying her car alarm was going off; an officer checked and found no intruder. At 5:26 a.m. someone on Bolton Road reported a dog with a wounded leg had come inside along with her own dog; the animal control officer was notified. At 11:48 a.m. someone reported an injured porcupine on Woodchuck Hill Road; again the animal control officer was called. At 1:48 p.m. a caller said two dogs were running loose on Park Lane; the animal control officer was paged. At 7:09 p.m. an officer saw debris on Mass. Ave. and moved it off the road, as well as informing the state Department of Transportation, as it is a state route.
Saturday, May 3
At 2:56 a.m. an Old Mill Road resident said a car had been parked in his driveway, and he saw a man come out of the woods, get into the vehicle, and drive away. The caller was chasing the vehicle, although police told him to stop. It is unclear what happened next, but at least one vehicle was damaged and required a tow. The police gave the driver of that car a ride to the Alltown in Ayer. At 10:26 a.m. a 911 caller from Harris Lane said she had returned home to find an unfamiliar car in her driveway. The driver said he was from DoorDash, had come to the wrong address, and left. An officer checked and found that a neighbor had indeed received a DoorDash delivery. At 11:20 a.m. an officer filed a report on the theft of a package from a Brown Road home. At 11:39 a.m. a caller said he was on Old Littleton Road, driving behind a mail truck that was swerving and filming him; the postal truck driver then went to the police station and filed a report. At 2:50 p.m. a motorist reported a metal grate sticking up from the road near the intersection of Ayer and Whitney roads. At 5:18 p.m. a 911 caller said a tree had fallen on wires along Stow Road; this was the event that caused the blackout at Town Meeting. National Grid shut down the power for several hours in that area. At 6:41 p.m. someone reported a large, dead turtle on Candleberry Lane. At 7:54 p.m. a caller complained about loud noise at the Prospect Hill overlook.
Sunday, May 4
At 1:31 a.m. Boxborough police asked Harvard for backup while investigating a burglar alarm going off on Barteau Lane. At 10:10 a.m. a caller reported a manhole cover askew on Ayer Road; an officer removed the hazard. At 1:18 p.m. a Stow Road resident told police he needed to tow his lawn mower out of the mud with his car and would be blocking the road briefly; an officer stood by to direct traffic while the work was going on.
Monday, May 5
At 2:13 p.m. a caller reported a sick duck near Littleton Road; the animal control officer was notified.
