Stories from Clinton Shores
The Harvard Historical Society will present “History and Stories from Clinton Shores” Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at the meetinghouse, 215 Still River Road. Special guests will share old photos and stories that recreate a century of life in this unique community on Bare Hill Pond. Following the presentation will be a barbecue on the grounds of the society. The cost for the program and barbecue is $15 per person, and registration is necessary. Email curator@harvardhistory.org. Introduction to Zen Buddhist meditation
Linda Shinji Hoffman will conduct an introduction to Zen Buddhist meditation Monday, June 10, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Old Frog Pond Farm & Studio, 38 Eldridge Road. Learn about posture, breath, how to hold awareness, and what to do as thoughts arise. After this introduction, a guided meditation will move participants into silence followed by an opportunity for questions. Nuclear fusion at Devens
Jessica Strunkin of Commonwealth Fusion Systems will speak about the development of nuclear fusion and the work of CFS at Devens Wednesday, June 12, 7 p.m., at the Harvard Senior Center, 16 Lancaster County Road. Come hear about this safe, clean, and unlimited power source and the progress toward commercial fusion energy. There will be a Q&A session after the talk. Hosted by the Harvard Republican Town Committee. All are welcome.
Forage and print workshop
Learn plant-based photographic printing with artist Anne Eder Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, at Old Frog Pond Farm & Studio, 38 Eldridge Road. Participants will forage for suitable materials in the woods and along the pond, and then explore the wonderful and nontoxic world of plant-based printing. The two-day workshop will also cover chlorophyll printing and lumens, a type of cameraless photography. Tuition is $150 including all materials and follow-up via Zoom. Sunset drum circle
Fruitlands Museum will present a sunset drum circle with SoulWorks Rhythm Tuesday, June 18, 7 p.m. at 102 Prospect Hill Road. Connect with the landscape, magnificent sunsets, and ancient rhythms while building and celebrating community. Assorted drums will be provided, and no prior experience is required. Family fun at Mirror Lake
Kick off the summer season Sunday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the annual Family Fun Day at Mirror Lake in Devens. Enjoy the Summa Madness ice cream truck and Twizted Pickle food truck, along with swimming, boat rentals, an inflatable slide, games, and music. Free admission.
Fruitlands celebrates Pride
Join Fruitlands Museum, 102 Prospect Hill Road, Sunday, June 23, for a full day of Pride celebrations. Visit the museum during daytime hours for family-friendly activities, suitable for all ages, including crafts and guided hikes. The Harvard Conservation Commission and Climate Committee will host “Managing Backyard Invasives,” presented by Jane Maloney of the Sudbury Valley Trustees, Tuesday, June 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Harvard Public Library.
Fun run and 5-miler
The Great Harvard 4th of July Race will be run Thursday, July 4, starting at 8:15 a.m at the Bromfield School, 14 Mass. Ave. The 1-mile fun run will start at 9:30 a.m., and on-site registration for both opens at 6:30 a.m. Register by June 20 to receive a high-quality running shirt; no race-day shirts will be available. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in seven different divisions and post-race refreshments will be available. Introduction to General Marquis de Lafayette
The Lancaster Historical Society will host a program on the General Marquis de Lafayette Sunday, June 16, 2 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall at the First Church of Christ, Unitarian, 725 Main Street, Lancaster. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 978-733-6907.
Lafayette fought in the Revolutionary War, becoming George Washington’s most trusted general, and traveled across America in 1824 and 1825 before returning to France. The 200th Anniversary Tour of America event will recreate his path with planned stops in Lancaster and Bolton in September of this year.
Recognizing Loaves & Fishes volunteers
The Loaves & Fishes food pantry will commemorate 40 years of operation with an open house to honor all the people who have ever donated, volunteered, or worked with Loaves & Fishes. It will be held Tuesday, June 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dirigible Brewing Company, 24 Porter Road, Littleton. Smoke Show’s barbecue will be available for purchase, as will beer and nonalcoholic drinks, with $1 from every drink going to Loaves & Fishes. The event features door prizes, a raffle, and a silent auction. Plan to attend, and bring a friend.
