It seems unfathomable that Harvard’s civilized and comprehensive educational system produces some students in our elementary, middle, and high schools professing discrimination and hate of their fellow human beings. We all embrace free speech, but when that speech embraces biased hate over mutual respect then there must be accountability.
I applaud the superintendent, principals, teachers, and some parents who are immediately addressing this issue.
A truly broad and graphically explicit class or program on hate and discrimination must be immediately established in our schools along with the essence of beneficial inclusionary ideals.
Any desecration of public as well as private property with symbols of discrimination and hate must never be tolerated. Any parents of those students who cause such hateful behavior should be held responsible for the cost to repair such destruction. Hopefully our professional educational staff work diligently to establish this important curriculum as soon as possible.
May our entire Harvard community, along with our schools, demonstrate how harmful hateful bias must give way to broad inclusionary ideals of mutual respect and true understanding, treating others as you would want others to treat you.
