In the past week, police made five motor vehicle stops; one resulted in a verbal warning, two in written warnings or citations, and one in a civil citation, which carries a financial penalty; no outcome was specified for one stop. Officers also issued or renewed two firearms permits, performed a well-being check, and responded to a false burglar alarm.
Tuesday, Jan. 30
At 9:41 a.m. a caller reported icy pathways along Mass. Ave., and the Department of Public Works was notified.
Wednesday, Jan. 31
At 5:23 p.m. a driver phoned police to say his car had broken down on Ayer Road and he could not reach a towing service; an officer found a service to tow the car.
Thursday, Feb. 1
At 7:45 a.m. a caller reported finding a text message on her daughter’s phone from her ex-husband, against whom there is a restraining order. The caller asked police if the text violated the order and was told it probably did not. At 5:12 p.m. an officer checked on a disabled vehicle on Mass. Ave. but found someone was already helping the driver.
Friday, Feb. 2
At 10:20 a.m. a DPW crew was filling a pothole on Still River Road, and an officer advised the workers to get a safety detail, which they did. At 10:47 a.m. someone called 911 to say a tractor-trailer was turning around on Ayer Road and damaging an area along the road; police decided the concerns were unfounded. At 12:08 p.m. an officer made the first of three attempts to serve a restraining order at an Old Mill Road residence; the order was successfully served at 9:13 p.m. At 8:16 p.m. a Littleton County Road resident reported someone had come up to her window and whistled at her; police checked the area but found no one.
Saturday, Feb. 3
At 12:41 p.m. a man came to the police station to say his car had been damaged in a hit-and-run incident in Ayer; the matter was referred to the Ayer police.
Sunday, Feb. 4
At 10:11 a.m. a 911 caller reported a driver swerving from side to side on Route 2 and nearly hitting another car; the driver then took the Ayer Road exit and headed into Ayer, so police there were alerted. At 5:31 p.m. a Littleton Road resident called with suspicions about a car that had been parked in their driveway while they were away; police reached the car owner, who said the vehicle had broken down and help was on the way. At 8:19 p.m. a 911 caller from Littleton Road reported hearing loud banging noises in the woods behind the house; police checked the area but found nothing amiss.
Monday, Feb. 5
