My family reads a lot of books; they inform and entertain us at times and places convenient to us. Many of the books come via CW MARS, the Commonwealth Catalog, and, in harder cases with the help of the reference staff, from around the country. This is not because we have already read every book in the Harvard Public Library, but because no local library can contain every book.
I read with alarm Stacie Cassat Green’s article on library funding stating that our library, whose many services are a resource for all students and adults, is in danger of losing the “outside borrowing” privilege and other services through inadequate funding. That would be a large cultural step backward for Harvard. I urge that the Harvard Public Library be funded at least at the municipal appropriation requirement level as described by Green to maintain its valuable services to the town.
