The people of Harvard have already voted to sell Bromfield House. In an act of kindness the house was allowed to be used for temporary housing of the Afghan families. There is a good possibility that the proceeds from the sale of the house could be enough to cover the town’s revenue shortfall, eliminating the need for the override. What is more interesting is the fact that the biggest beneficiary of the override would be the schools and School Committee.
Perhaps if the schools and committee feel so strongly about the housing, they can turn down the money they are requesting from the override to house the families in Bromfield House. Another option would be for a fundraising drive to be made to house the families.
Forcing the majority of the town to be disenfranchised after they have spoken does not seem to be good public policy.
