The boys golf players won the Midland Wachusett Division C championship, placing first among the seven teams in their class. Evan Piekos was low medalist and Noah Petrossi tied for second. At the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 tournament the following week, the boys placed fourth, behind Ayer Shirley, Hopedale, and East Bridgewater. The team’s fourth-place finish eliminates it from team competition at the MIAA All State tournament next Monday, Oct. 30, at the Sterling National Country Club, but as this week’s paper was being prepared, the Press was waiting to hear which players had qualified to compete as individuals at that event.
The boys and girls cross-country teams each finished first in their meets at the Dick Atkinson Invitational meet at Northfield last week, a good omen perhaps for the upcoming Midland Wachusett League championship scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28.
Meanwhile, Bromfield boys and girls soccer teams have entered the postseason, with mixed results. The boys narrowly won their quarterfinal against Tyngsborough earlier this week and were headed to a semifinal match against Maynard on Thursday, Oct. 26. Ranked number one in the latest MIAA Division 5 power rankings, Bromfield will once again be a contender at the state tournament, where it will be competing for a sixth straight state title. The girls lost their quarterfinal against Douglas this week, but with an MIAA Division 5 power ranking of 17 among the division’s 78 schools, they are certain to qualify for a bracket in the state tournament next month.
The field hockey team lost its quarterfinal match against Hopedale on Monday, but with an MIAA power ranking of 29 the team also has a chance to compete in the MIAA state tournament among the 32 qualifying schools of Division 4.
