Regular season for Bromfield’s varsity teams comes to an end this week, soon followed by Central Massachusetts tournaments, which begin Oct. 23. These are sponsored by the Central Massachusetts Athletic Directors Association, but their name has been shortened. The statewide tournaments sponsored by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association will get underway once the Central Massachusetts tournaments are decided.
The girls cross-country team enters tournament season as the top Midland-Wachusett C League team, undefeated for a fifth straight year. The boys are also tops in their league undefeated for the second straight year. Both teams will be the favorites in next week’s league championship in Lunenburg. (See story on page 32.)
The boys golf team is ending its season at the top of Mid-Wach C with a 10-1 record and will be a strong contender in the combined Mid-Wach C and D tournament in Lunenburg later this week.
The boys soccer team is in second place within the Mid-Wach C, just behind Oakmont Regional. But while Bromfield could face Oakmont in a Central Massachusetts playoff, the two teams will not meet in the MIAA state championship. Instead, Bromfield could find itself competing once again with Sutton, currently the first place team in Division 5, as it tries for a sixth straight state title.

The Press is following six Bromfield varsity teams this fall: boys and girls soccer and cross-country, boys golf, and girls field hockey. We could use some assistance tracking the accomplishments of the golf and field hockey teams. If you would like to help, either as a reporter or someone to record match highlights and results, please contact John Osborn, acting sports editor, at editor@harvardpress.net.
