In the past week, police made 13 motor vehicle stops, resulting in seven verbal warnings, four written warnings, and two civil citations, which carry a fine. They also made one well-being check, issued or renewed one firearm permit, and responded to three false burglar alarms.
The Ambulance Service responded to seven calls and transported five patients to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support Services on board. There was one motor vehicle accident but no lift assists.
Tuesday, Sept. 5
At 7:35 a.m. a caller reported a large mastiff had run off after deer in the Abbot Lane area. The caller said the mastiff is sometimes aggressive against other dogs, and the animal control officer was advised. At 9:06 a.m. an officer noticed a broken sliding door at an Oak Hill Road house that was supposed to be vacant. There was no sign of an intruder; police suggested the damage might have been caused by an animal. At 3:08 p.m. Harvard police were called to assist Boxborough officers in capturing a fugitive wanted for an assault at the Boxborough Regency Hotel. (See story on page 1.) At 5:50 p.m. a caller told police a blue Dodge Ram was speeding and passing other vehicles on Stow and Finn roads. At 6:25 p.m. there was another complaint about a speeding car on Still River Road. At 9:42 p.m. an officer found three people swimming at Bare Hill Pond and advised them that the beach was closed after dark.
Wednesday, Sept. 6
At 6:56 p.m. a caller complained about dirt bikes speeding and driving off-road near Prospect Hill Road; the bikers were gone when police arrived. At 7:30 p.m. a Littleton County Road resident told police a woman was trying to scam him online by claiming to have photos of him.
Thursday, Sept. 7
At 8:54 a.m. an officer filed a report on a minor two-car collision in the Bromfield School parking lot. At 1:30 p.m. a Poor Farm Road resident called with suspicions about people carrying ladders on her property, as seen on her security camera; an officer checked and found they were workers and nothing was amiss. At 3:36 p.m. a Brown Road resident reported a damaged mailbox.
Friday, Sept. 8
At 11:17 a.m. a resident came to the police station to file a report about a case of fraud. At 2:38 p.m. a 911 caller on Littleton Road reported the first of many fallen trees caused by the violent thunderstorm that tore through the area. Over the next four hours, police received reports of downed trees from Granite View Lane, Westcott Road, Still River Road, Candleberry Lane, and Mill Road.
Saturday, Sept. 9
At 10:02 a.m. a person came to the police station to report a theft; no other information was available. At 1:49 p.m. an Under Pin Hill Road resident called for help because the power had gone off and another person in the home relied on a ventilator; police called National Grid for an emergency response. At 7:02 p.m. a caller reported hearing a number of gunshots in the Willow Road area; police checked the area but found nothing amiss.
Sunday, Sept. 10
At 10:42 a.m. someone came to the station to report trees and electric wires down near the intersection of Still River and West Bare Hill roads. At 12:15 p.m. an officer checked on an unoccupied car and trailer parked on Pinnacle Road near the observatory. At 3:07 p.m. a caller reported flooding near the intersection of Littleton and Whitney roads. At 8:35 p.m. someone called 911 about an erratic driver headed out of town on Ayer Road, and Ayer police were alerted.
Monday, Sept. 11
At 12:44 p.m. an officer noticed some hazardous rocks in the road near the intersection of Poor Farm and Ayer roads; the Department of Public Works was notified.
