Jason Cotting, recently promoted to firefighter by the Harvard Fire Department, won the Martin H.McNamara Outstanding Student Award, which is presented to one graduating student who demonstrates leadership, dedication, and academic excellence. The award is named after a call/volunteer firefighter from Lancaster, who died fighting a fire in 2003. Cotting was among 32 graduates of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training Program. Cotting, who is also the director of the Harvard Ambulance, is the first Harvard resident to receive this award.
