Prominent attorney, military veteran, avid fisherman and sailor

Lt. Col. George T. Mustakas II, retired United States Air Force, age 79, and a resident of Harvard, died peacefully Friday, June 23, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Sally J. (Jennings) Mustakas with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.
He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Aug. 17, 1943, and was a son of the late George T. and Carlota (Carroll) Mustakas.
George served an honorable and distinguished military career that spanned over 27 years of service in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
George’s education included a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University. He received a Juris Doctor from Tulane University, and a master of laws degree from the University of Edinburgh, Europa Institute (UK). George also received a diploma in international commercial arbitration from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London (UK) and was an associate of the United Kingdom Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
A prominent Louisiana trial attorney, George was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in October 1975 and later in his career to the Honorable Society of the Middle Temple (Bar of England and Wales) in October 1994. During his notable legal career, George was a judge advocate for the U.S. Air Force, and a renowned prosecutor for the state of Louisiana, alongside maintaining a successful private practice. In the latter part of his career, he was a barrister-at-law appearing before the courts of England and Wales. George will be most remembered by his legal colleagues as a highly skilled and exceptionally gifted advocate appearing before trial and appellate courts of Louisiana and the United Kingdom.
Aside from his law career, George was a devoted husband and father and an avid and accomplished fisherman and sailor. George was also a lifelong fan of the Louisiana State University football team.
In addition to his loving wife, George leaves his children, Alexander and Sean Mustakas; his sister, Carlota (Cuccia) Mustakas; his daughter-in-law, Presha Mustakas; and his granddaughter, Alexandre Mustakas.
A funeral service was held privately Friday, June 30. Interment will be held with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in the future. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
