As we enter the heart of the summer harvest season, the Press is about to begin its annual summer hiatus. We’ll return with a new issue on August 11, but in the meantime, these listings reflect what will likely be available at our local farmstands between now and then.
Carlson Orchards, 115 Oak Hill Road, 978-456-3916
Strawberries and red currants from Nourse Farm in Westborough. Tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, onions, and other produce from Idylwilde Farms will continue to be available over the summer. Some of Carlson’s apple varieties from last season are still available. Blueberry-picking will open as soon as the berries are ripe; check Facebook for updates.
Store is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Doe Orchards, 327 Ayer Road, 978-772-4139
Pick-your-own blueberries should be opening around July 8; check Facebook for updates. As the summer progresses, the stand will have tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peppers, and sunflowers.
Good Spirits Farm, 106 East Bare Hill Road, 978-456-8291
At the self-service farmstand this week: raspberries, blueberries, snap peas, spinach, kale, and fresh and dried herbs. Honey, jam, and fresh flower bouquets are also available, as are chicken and duck eggs from Harvard’s Goose and Hen Farm. Coming soon: zucchini, pattypan squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, blackberries, and ground cherries.
Stand is open daily.
Old Frog Pond Farm, 38 Eldridge Road
At the self-service farmstand on the porch: certified organic fruit and vegetables, including strawberries, blueberries, mulberries, kale, cabbage, Swiss chard, collard greens, turnips, and garlic scapes. Most of these items will be available over the next month. The farm’s honey and raspberry jam are also at the stand, as are local eggs.
Stand is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the week, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
Westward Orchards, 178 Massachusetts Avenue, 978-456-8363
Available this week: strawberries, sour cherries, broccoli, summer squash, zucchini, kale, Swiss chard, romaine, Bibb lettuce, and mixed herbs. Lots more produce will be coming in the next few weeks, and produce from Idylwilde Farms is also sold at the store. Westward-grown produce is all labeled as such. Pick-your-own blueberries should be opening around July 10; check Facebook or Instagram for updates.
Store is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
