Fourth of July events
Schedule of the town’s Tuesday, Fourth of July celebration:
- 9 a.m. isplay of antique cars at the library field.
- 10 a.m. Bike decorating in the town center, across from the Harvard General Store.
- 11 a.m. Parade, which begins at Depot and Ayer roads.
- Noon: Flag-raising ceremony, followed by field events, all on the library field.
The Lions Club will offer food for sale.

Great Harvard Road Races
Races take place Tuesday, July 4, through back roads and over rolling hills and starting and ending at the Bromfield School, 14 Mass. Ave.
- 6:30 a.m. registration opens
- 8:15 a.m. 5-mile race starts
- 9:30 a.m. 1-mile kids’ fun run starts.

Scottish fiddling
Champion Scottish fiddler Alistair McCulloch, accompanied by Tom Pixton on piano, will appear at Fivesparks, 7 Fairbank Street, Thursday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m. McCulloch is fiddle instructor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has appeared in over 20 countries. Admission is by free-will offering; suggested donation $25 for adults, $15-20 for teens and seniors, and $10 for children $10.

Yoga at Devens

Free concerts on Lancaster Green
There will be live music Thursdays through July 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., on the Lancaster Town Green on Main Street. The Friends of Lancaster Seniors will offer pizza for sale at 6 p.m., or bring your own food and beverages as well as lawn chairs or blankets. Upcoming performers are:

Eco-adventures for youngsters
The Nashua River Watershed Association will offer “Summer Survival Fun Week” Monday, July 10, to Thursday, July 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the NRWA River Resource Center, 592 Main Street (Route 119), Groton. Participants will explore the fields, woods, and hills of Groton and spend a full day canoeing on the Squannacook River. Fee is $300 for members, $330 for nonmembers; go to nashuariverwatershed.org to register.
Meeting House history
ShirleyArts! will present “The Old Peabody Pew” at the Shirley Meeting House, 41 Brown Road, Shirley, Saturday, July 15, at 7:30 p.m. The play, written by Kate Douglas Wiggin in 1907, takes place in an old New England meeting house and describes the repairs and improvements made by the women of the parish and comments on relationship customs of that era. Admission is free, but both ShirleyArts! and the Meeting House accept donations.
