Bromfield boys aim for Central Mass. tennis title after winning semifinal

May 26, 2023

The Bromfield boys tennis team is one match away from a Central Mass. championship after winning its Class C semifinal 3-2 against No. 3 seed Bartlett Tuesday afternoon on its home courts in this year’s Central Massachusetts Athletic Directors Association-sponsored tournament.

Just 24 hours earlier, the No. 2 seed Trojans had beaten the No. 7 West Boylston Lions 5-0 to advance to Tuesday’s semifinal. Now the boys will get a shot at this year’s Central Mass. Class C title when they face No. 1 seed Sutton Friday afternoon, May 26, at a location to be announced. The two teams are rated 12th (Sutton) and 13th (Bromfield) in the latest Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association power ranking. Sutton is 14-3 for the season; Bromfield is 10-7.

In spite of having to compensate for missing starters throughout the season, the boys “have been able to stand strong and fight to earn their spot in top 16 of the rankings,” Coach Carlson Beale wrote in an email. “We are planning on taking district finals against Sutton and earning that long overdue trophy.”
