At the next meeting of the agency responsible for permitting and regulating commercial and residential development at Devens, Carl Sciple of Fairbank Street will join Harvard’s two-person delegation, replacing one of the Devens Enterprise Commission’s longest serving members.
The vote of the Select Board to appoint Sciple to the commission Tuesday night was unanimous. His appointment is subject to the approval of Gov. Maura Healey.
Jim DeZutter, who has represented Harvard on the Devens Enterprise Commission since its inception in 1995, plans to move with his wife Pat to New Hampshire later this spring and will resign his position as commissioner. DeZutter is currently co-chair of the 12-member commission. “Jim has been a dedicated and valuable member,” commented DEC Chair Bill Marshall in an email to the Press.
Said Victor Normand, chair of the Harvard-Devens Jurisdiction Committee which DeZutter attended regularly: “Never at a loss for words, Jim has been a master of the thoughtful question or a prescient comment. His commitment to Devens goes far beyond his loyal service to the DEC.”
Sciple, a retired engineer who has served on a number of town committees, from the Zoning Board of Appeals to the Council on Aging, will be seated as Harvard’s alternate representative until DeZutter resigns. Once DeZutter steps down, Sciple will become a full voting member. He will join Duncan Chapman, the second member of Harvard’s delegation.
