 —Team highlights —

Alpine skiing

Lack of snow and bad weather continued to disrupt Alpine ski races at Nashoba Valley Ski Area last week. The boys and girls teams have raced in one of three scheduled giant slalom races and were scheduled to race the remaining two this week. That leaves three slalom races to complete the season, dates to be announced. In an email to the Press, first-year Coach Daniel Johnson wrote, “I think the team is getting used to me sending last-minute emails saying, ‘Nevermind, everything I said yesterday or an hour ago is now inaccurate.’”

Basketball

The girls basketball team won two back-to-back league games last week, first beating Narragansett decisively 44-25 with some great defensive play (see story on page 7) and then Murdock 52-15.

The boys improved their standing as well, winning two more games for a solid 9-2 season record. Bromfield was ranked 40th last week among the 91 teams in Division 5 of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Indoor track

Three boys traveled to the Central Massachusetts Track Coaches Association invitational this past Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.  Sam Secor finished first in the 600-meter with a time of 1 minute, 24.46 seconds, a time, according to Coach Marisa Steele, that beat his previous best by one second.  Jack Stahl placed third in the same race with a time of 1:24.87,  improving his previous best by close to 3 seconds. Both were among the 33 runners competing in the event.

Colin Harte raced in the 300, finishing 11th among 56 runners with a time of 37.49. This was also a personal record for Harte, bettering his time from last year by 0.2 seconds.
