Team Highlights
There were plenty of cancellations this past week as bad weather disrupted scheduled games and meets. But the boys and girls Alpine teams finally met for the first race of the season, a nine-school giant slalom at Nashoba Valley Ski area. Official results had yet to be released as of Wednesday morning, but word from the coaches meeting was that the boys had placed third and the girls fifth.
At the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association relays, the boys competed in four of 10 events and placed 14th among 23 participating teams. They placed second in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay, sixth in the 4x400m relay, and 10th in the 4x800m and distance relays. The sprint medley team of Colin Harte, Liam Morrison, Jack Stahl, and Sam Secor broke their own school record of 3 minutes, 43.12 seconds with a time of 3:42.16. The distance medley team of Christian Johannesen, Jack Stahl, Thaman Surya, and Harrison Binnick broke a 12:17.4 school record that has stood since 2007 with a time of 12:10.86. “All the more impressive considering Binnick and Johannesen are both freshmen,” commented Coach Marisa Steele.
The girls indoor track team participated in six of 10 events and placed 14th among the 24 competing schools. Trojan runners placed fourth in both the 4 x 800 meter relay and the distance medley. Rosie Bradley and Evelyn Wool ran personal bests on their legs of the 800-meter race.
