In the past week police made 24 motor vehicle stops, five resulting in verbal warnings and 19 in written warnings or citations. Officers also made one well-being check. The ambulance crew responded to 11 calls and transported nine patients to the hospital, four with Advanced Life Support onboard. One call resulted from a motor vehicle collision.
When the police report was prepared for this week, the officers on duty were involved in two major investigations and were not available to provide additional details about the week’s events. As a result, this column is based only on information from the dispatcher’s log.
Tuesday, Dec. 13
At 7:08 a.m. a two-car crash on Ayer Road resulted in injuries, but both people refused ambulance transport; at least one car required a tow. At 1:40 p.m. police filed a report on a drug case.
Wednesday, Dec. 14
At 2:07 a.m. police notified the Department of Public Works that road conditions were becoming hazardous. At 3:44 p.m. an animal call was referred to the animal control officer.
Thursday, Dec. 15
At 4:06 p.m. a caller reported suspicious activity in the Brown Road area; police searched the area but found nothing amiss.
Friday, Dec. 16
At 8:16 p.m. Ayer police requested assistance from Harvard officers at an incident on Main Street in Ayer. At 8:46 p.m. police warned of hazardous road conditions townwide. At 9:18 p.m. Ayer police again asked for assistance, this time at an incident on Harvard Road in Ayer.
Saturday, Dec. 17
At 4:14 p.m. a caller reported suspicious activity on Old Littleton Road; police referred the call to another agency. At 9:06 p.m. a 911 call about an incident on Route 2 westbound was referred to the state police.
Sunday, Dec. 18
At 2:19 p.m. police were asked to assist another agency in an incident on Littleton Road. At 3:19 p.m. police responded to a call about a disturbance on Cruft Lane.
Monday, Dec. 19
At 9:40 a.m. an Ayer Road resident reported a case of larceny or fraud. At 3:18 p.m. a caller spoke with police about a sex offense. At 9:07 p.m. an officer served a restraining order at a residence on Swanson Road in Boxborough.
The police log is written by a Harvard Press reporter based on information gleaned from daily police logs and interviews with police staff. Decisions to publish or withhold the names of people arrested will be based on our need to balance the privacy of individuals with our responsibility to report news of significance.
Police officers honored at department’s annual awards day
This week the Harvard Police Department held its annual awards day. Officers Tim Miner and Aaron Cavanaugh received the lifesaving award and ribbon for their swift actions in performing CPR on an elderly resident.
Detective Daniele Fortunato was recognized for her continued diligence not only as a detective but as school resource officer, court officer, and liaison with the department’s new clinician. Fortunato was also instrumental in the homicide investigation last summer. In addition, she just completed a master’s degree in teaching at Fitchburg State University.
Sgt. Charles DiRienzo and Officer Tyler Forbes were commended for their work in capturing two serial poachers. Their work was key to an ongoing investigation by the state environmental police.
Officer Charles Genetti received an award for 10 years of distinguished service.
