The state reported 19 new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending May 28, four more than reported the previous week, bringing the town’s cumulative number of state-reported cases since the pandemic began to 685. For the week beginning June 6, Harvard Public Schools reported 15 students and two staff out with COVID-19, three fewer students and three fewer staff than last week.
Between May 31 and June 6, the state reported 14,349 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, down from 16,690 new cases the previous week. On June 6, there were 585 hospitalizations reported, 91 fewer than a week earlier; the number of ICU patients decreased from 80 to 53 during the week ending June 6. The state reported 88 deaths during that same week, 41 more than the previous week.
The percentage of the 5,373 Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (5 and older) and fully vaccinated increased from 86.6% to 86.8% over the week ending May 31; the partially vaccinated percentage dropped to 9.1% that same week. The total number of residents with at least one booster increased by 22 and is currently 3,226. Vaccination numbers in the state report for Harvard do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
On June 7 the Federal Bureau of Prisons website reported no new COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens for the sixth week in a row. There was one case among staff, one fewer than the previous week. Since the pandemic began, 374 of the current inmates and 201 staff have recovered from COVID-19; 13 inmates died of the virus.
Note that case numbers reported by the state do not include people who tested positive only with an at-home test.
