Boys place eighth at district track meet; Harte and Eang Lee qualify for states

Bromfield’s indoor track and field teams competed at the District E meet at Fitchburg High School Feb. 12. The boys claimed eighth place in a field of 21 teams, while the girls did not post a team score.

Teams from across central Massachusetts came together for the 43rd Annual District E Gerry Frew Indoor Invitational. Athletes and relay teams who earned top-six places in an event scored points for their team.

Sophomore Colin Harte brought in Bromfield’s only points from the meet, running to second in the 300-meter dash with a time of 40.07 seconds. Lunenburg junior Tim Smith won the event in 39.10.

Senior Jacob Pulido took second in his heat and 11th overall in the 55 preliminary round to qualify for the finals in 7.27. He came back with a 7.43 to place 12th in the finals.

Senior Pariss Eang Lee and sophomore Gretchen Day were the only two girls representing Bromfield on Saturday, and neither scored points for the team. Eang Lee ran the 55-meter hurdles prelims in 10.22 and returned to place ninth in the finals with a time of 10.34 . On the field, she cleared 4 feet, 6 inches in the high jump to tie for eighth with Lunenburg senior Olivia Waldron and Narragansett sophomore Ashlyn Duplesis. Day ran 50.09 in the 300 for 19th overall and second in her heat.

Harte and Eang Lee each qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Association Division 5 Championship in two events. The divisional meet will be held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury on Feb. 18. Harte is seeded seventh in the 300 and 23rd in the 55. Eang Lee is seeded 21st in the 55 hurdles and 26th in high jump.
