The Trojans boys and girls track and field teams suffered several losses last week. Both teams fell to Maynard High School and Narragansett Regional High School in a tri-meet, Jan. 19. Both lost again Jan. 22 in a dual meet against Ayer Shirley Regional High School.
The girls lost 43-38 to Maynard and 71-16 to Narragansett at the tri-meet, with senior Pariss Eang Lee as the team’s strongest source of points. Eang Lee won the 55-meter dash in 8 seconds; cleared 4 feet, 8 inches for second overall in the high jump; and placed third in both the 300-meter dash (50.8) and the shot put (18 feet, 9 inches).
Seventh-grader Gabriella Temps also had a strong performance, running 2:05.9 in the 600 for third overall. The Trojans’ 4×400-meter relay team of sophomores Gretchen Day and Marissa Flynn, seventh-grader Violet Thomas, and Temps clocked 5:32.8 to beat Maynard (5:36.3) but fell to Narragansett (5:20.4).
The boys met a similar fate against the two opponents. The Trojans lost 57-17 to Narragansett and 47-20 to Maynard, though a few athletes had strong individual performances. Eighth-grader Christian Johannsen ran 1:46.8 in the 600 for first overall, and eighth-grader Liam Kemeza took second in the 1,000 with a time of 3:17.3. The Trojans put together a 4×200-meter relay team of eighth-grader Parker Kimball, freshmen Ralph Adams and Adrian Erdogus-Brady, and seventh-grader Liam Liang, but the boys’ time of 2:10.3 was bested by the other teams.
The girls competed in only five events against Ayer Shirley on Jan. 22, falling 68-17 to the Panthers, but the athletes who did compete placed well. Day was first in the 300 with a time of 50.7, while both Thomas and Temps claimed second in their events. Thomas ran 8.5 in the 55 and Temps clocked 3:56.7 in the 1,000. Flynn came in behind Temps, placing third with her time of 4:16.5.
The four banded together at the end of the day to win the 4×400 relay in 5:23.9.
The boys had a few more athletes competing Saturday but still lost to the Panthers 65-19. Senior Jacob Pulido placed first in two events, running 7.0 in the 55, and clearing 5-0 in the high jump. In the 2-mile, Kemeza and Johannsen took first and second, running 11:45.2 and 11:52.2. Kimball was third in the 300 with a time of 47.7.
The Trojans raced two relays but lost in both. Parker, Erdogus-Brady, Liang, and Pulido clocked 2:03.7 in the 4×200, and Johannsen, seventh-grader Ayden Hill, Adams, and Kemeza ran 4:52.0 in the 4×400.
The girls’ season record stands at 0-3-1 and the boys are 0-4. Teams raced again Jan. 26 in a dual meet against Murdock High School. Results were not available as of press time. The Trojans are also scheduled to compete Jan. 29 at the Massachusetts State Coaches Association Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center.
