In the past week, police made two motor vehicle stops, both resulting in verbal warnings. Police also issued or renewed one firearm permit. Emergency responders received eight medical calls and took six people to area hospitals, three with Advanced Life Support services on board. Two other callers needed only a lift assist.
Tuesday, Sept. 21
At 7:01 a.m. a caller reported a tractor-trailer stopped in the middle of Mass. Ave. An officer told the driver, who was checking his GPS, to move to a safer location. At 9 a.m. an officer followed up on an earlier report of an unfamiliar car that had been parked at the General Store the previous Friday night, because the Bolton Bean coffee shop had been broken into on Sept. 16. At 5:18 p.m. police responded to a family disturbance and confirmed that the situation was settling down.
Wednesday, Sept. 22
At 11:18 a.m. police again checked in with the General Store about possible suspicious activity. At 1:05 p.m. an officer noticed a damaged utility pole on Bolton Road and notified National Grid. At 4:27 p.m. an officer removed a large branch that had fallen on Stow Road near the Interstate 495 overpass.
Thursday, Sept. 23
At 8:50 a.m. an officer notified the Department of Public Works that a crosswalk light in front of the elementary school was not working. At 6:42 p.m. a caller told police a town sign at the Prospect Hill overlook had been stolen. Several signs have been taken from that location, and police say the thieves could face charges.
Friday, Sept. 24
At 8:20 p.m. someone reported seeing a man on the Route 2 overpass on Ayer Road; the caller said the man appeared to be throwing something onto Route 2. Police searched the area but did not find the person.
Saturday, Sept. 25
At 11:04 a.m. a 911 caller reported a minor collision at Town Hall, where one car had backed into another. No one was injured; a driver was cited for failure to use care. At 12:37 p.m. another 911 caller told police a husky-type dog had jumped into his car on Hillcrest Drive; the animal control officer was notified. At 8:17 p.m. a resident heard a loud bang in the Depot Road area and notified police; a police check of the area turned up nothing amiss. At 9:59 p.m. someone called 911 to say a car had run off Still River Road. No one was injured, but the car was heavily damaged and had to be towed. The driver was cited for going out of the proper lane.
Sunday, Sept. 26
At 9:37 a.m. and again at 11:16 a.m. a Woodside Road resident complained about a recreational vehicle speeding around the area, possibly with an underage driver. Police located the vehicle and found the driver was of age. At 1:02 p.m. a caller reported a fallen tree blocking both lanes of Park Lane; the DPW was notified and cleared the obstruction. At 3:08 p.m. a 911 caller reported a confrontation at Carlson Orchards (see story on this page). At 5:52 p.m. someone reported a recreational vehicle had flipped over on private property on Brown Road; the driver refused ambulance transport. At 8:06 p.m. a Littleton County Road resident called with a noise complaint about a neighbor driving a backhoe nearby; police spoke to the neighbor.
Monday, Sept. 27
At 3:47 a.m. someone on Abbot Lane called about a barking dog, saying it was the second night in a row for the disturbance. At 12:05 p.m. an officer learned of an injured coyote near Lancaster County Road, but a search of the area did not locate the animal. At 9:50 p.m. a 911 caller reported seeing a bicycle and helmet lying by the roadside near the intersection of East Bare Hill and Westcott roads. Police say the bike and helmet were adult-size and most likely fell off a vehicle.
