During the past week, police made one motor vehicle stop, which resulted in a verbal warning. Officers responded to one request for a well-being check, seven reports of fallen trees or other road hazards, and two false burglar alarms. Police also issued or renewed four firearms permits. Emergency responders received five medical calls and transported five people to the hospital, two with Advanced Life Support services in attendance.
Tuesday, Aug. 17
At 10:37 a.m. a Warren Avenue resident called to report two dogs were missing, but they soon returned home. At 1:56 p.m. a caller reported suspicions about a car on Withington Lane; it was simply someone on an errand. At 7:17 p.m. an officer noticed an open door at the Department of Public Works building on Depot Road; the officer checked the building and locked the door.
Wednesday, Aug. 18
At 8:57 a.m. a Bolton Road resident reported getting an odd call—possibly a scam—during the night. Police found it had been an accidental call from an emergency service the resident works with. At 4:43 p.m. someone on Still River Road reported a scam phone call purporting to be from National Grid. At 10:23 p.m. a caller told police several cars were parked at the ballfield on Ann Lees Road after dark. An officer located one of the cars on Littleton Road and spoke to the driver.
Thursday, Aug. 19
At 2:32 a.m. someone called because a car had backed into a utility pole near the Westward Orchards farmstand on Mass. Ave. National Grid and Verizon were notified. At 1:28 p.m. a resident came to the police station to say she had written a check to the town of Harvard; shortly afterward her bank account was hacked and some checks were duplicated. Two similar events were reported recently, one here and one in Pepperell. Police are investigating to make sure the town’s online financial services are secure. At 5:55 p.m. an Ayer Road resident reported the possible theft of a package, but police concluded it was a delivery problem.
Friday, Aug. 20
At 1:10 p.m. an officer helped a Tahanto Trail resident who was locked out of her house. At 5:31 p.m. someone reported a disabled car on Ayer Road. Police gave the driver a ride to the station, and the car was towed. At 8:09 p.m. an Ayer Road resident called about a homeless man who had asked for water and said he had been walking all day. The man—a veteran— was suffering from heat and thirst; he was taken to a hospital. At 9:43 p.m. Boxborough police asked for assistance in making an arrest.
Saturday, Aug. 21
At 3:14 p.m. a Poor Farm Road resident reported several people had left litter on his property; police spoke with the litterers. At 10:34 p.m. a collision took place near the intersection of Mill and Ayer roads; no one was injured.
Sunday, Aug. 22
At 7:25 p.m. a resident came to the police station to report a possible case of Social Security fraud.
Monday, Aug. 23
At 11:34 a.m. police followed up with Town Hall about the security of online financial data there. At 5:15 p.m. one car rear-ended another on Ayer Road.
