The Harvard Fire Department was among 298 Massachusetts departments that received grants under the state’s Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program this year. Fire Chief Rick Sicard said he learned last Friday, April 9, that Harvard had been awarded $12,500 for new safety equipment. He said he plans to purchase “a battery-operated auto extrication tool,” which would help remove someone who was trapped in a wrecked car. Sicard said the tool is similar to the one often called “the jaws of life.”
