Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester was unable to distribute diplomas in person for the Class of 2020. However the college wanted to honor the students’ accomplishments and sent personal commencement packages, mailed to their homes, that included their diplomas, commencement regalia, and other items to celebrate their successes along with a congratulatory video message from President Laurie Leshin. In her message, Leshin made the traditional commencement walk to WPI’s iconic Earle Bridge, which students walk over during new student orientation and then again when they graduate. The college plans to hold in-person undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies in the future. The following Harvard students were among the WPI Class of 2020: Carlisle Ferguson was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering with high distinction. Edward Noyes was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. Suzanne Opalka was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering with high distinction. Daniel Shrives was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in robotics engineering with distinction.
Marianne K. Caroom and Gregory M. Germagian graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Mitchell Mandozzi graduated from University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, specializing in health and human physiology.
Kadin deRuijter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion for schools and communities from Springfield College in Springfield.
Sarah vandeVaart earned a Bachelor of Arts in graphic and interactive design from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut
