Harvard firefighters Dezerae Rodriguez and Jennifer Schoenberg graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Call/Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Training Program Monday, Feb. 24. This 240-hour training program is held on nights and weekends over the course of four months. The program includes classroom training in all basic firefighter skills. Participants practice first under non-fire conditions and then during controlled fire conditions. Students must demonstrate proficiency in life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation, and fire attack operations ranging from mailbox fires to multiple-floor or multiple-room structural fires.
