Annual Bed Race proves if you build it, they will come

September 19, 2019

It happened AGAIN! If we build it they will come, and by all accounts the Annual Lions Bed Race that kicked off the start of the Harvard Lions Fall Fest (previously Volksfest) was packed with 10 competing bed race teams and a great turnout of supporting families, friends, and spectators.

Parents, siblings, teachers, soccer teams, firefighters, friends of friends, ambulance staff, and of course our own Harvard Lions all raced in the spirit of having FUN within an atmosphere of community.
I want to personally thank all 10 teams who gave it their all and sincere thanks to the hardest working group of dedicated men and women from our very own Harvard Lions who make this community event possible.

As for the bed race results, not only did we draft up a new series of untimed and timed heats for the racers this year to reduce the sheer number of runs their teams would race, we also needed to make a trackside correction to the bracketed race results with consult from two of our race teams as we improve our overall race venue.

This year’s winners are: “Team Love Wins” in first place (41.63); “Harvard Fire Dept.” in second place (43.47); and “Team Under 44” in third place (47.30); with “Team Bier Daddies” taking home “Best Overall Theme.”

Congratulations to all and be on the lookout for the “First Place Lions Bed Race” trophy on display at the Harvard General Store in the coming days.
