Some of the planned improvements at the Bromfield School were running behind schedule, the School Committee heard this week. The new carpeting for the Cronin Auditorium was not done in time for convocation but has since been finished. And Building Commissioner Gabe Vellante has said that regulations require hiring an architect to design a new sound booth in the Cronin, rather than use the design developed as an educational project by students last spring.
The new flooring in the Bromfield kitchen proved to be too thick for the door of the new refrigerator to open, so Chef Paul Correnty has had to order a custom door for the fridge. Until the door arrives, the cafeteria will rely on a large refrigeration unit that has been set up outdoors. The good news, Superintendent Linda Dwight told the School Committee, is that the district will not have to pay for the extra costs caused by the flooring error.
Another piece of good news was the donation of several copying/scanning office machines, some teachers’ desks, and a number of classroom desks from Nizhoni Health Systems. Nizhoni moved out of its Ayer Road office after about 10 years there, according to Brian DiSanto, the company’s controller. He said the company will still service the Harvard area and wanted to donate the office furniture to the schools. “The community is really important to us,” he said
