Last hurrah for Central Mass Skate Festival
The 10th annual Central Mass Skate Festival will be held Friday, Aug. 2, through Sunday, Aug. 4. Competitors from across the country will participate in mini-ramp, slide jam, and downhill events. There will be shuttle buses to transport riders and spectators between town center and the race site all day on Sunday. Organizer Mike Girard has announced that this will be the festival’s last year, so don’t miss it!
Learn to Row!
If you’d like to learn to row, join Bare Hill Rowing Association’s summer program for sixth-graders through adults, with no experience necessary. In five one-hour classes, you’ll learn terminology, boat basics, how to navigate and refine the stroke, and have ample practice sculling in stable, flat-bottomed boats. Tom Denney Nature Camp has openings
The Tom Denney Nature Camp is a day camp in Bolton with lots of outdoor games. Openings are available for sessions in July and August, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Before and after daycare is available. Campers from all towns are welcome. Jackson Road bridge is being repaired
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) construction project on the Jackson Road Bridge over the Nashua River has begun. The first phase will include milling the surface of the bridge and will not involve a full closure. Structural work on the bridge deck will begin after July 4 and will involve night closures over four to five weeks. All work will be done between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays.
Committee reminds swimmers and boaters: Follow pond rules
As 2019 summer beach season gets underway, the Bare Hill Pond Watershed Management Committee reminds residents to review and follow the rules governing swimming and boating activities beyond the beach, whose regulations are set by the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Swimmers should remain within 100 feet of shore unless accompanied by a boat, says committee chair Bruce Leicher (see his letter on page 2). Motor boats traveling more than 150 feet from shore must follow the path designated by the committee and travel counterclockwise.
