The library staff and Board of Library Trustees have recently received many questions about the orange snow fence encircling a tree on the sidewalk that goes between the library and Hildreth Elementary School. Last October, we contacted the town with concerns about the tree, and the tree was assessed by a professional. A few weeks ago, one of the large branches fell on a group of backpacks during a sports practice. Fortunately, no one was hurt. After this incident, the tree was reassessed and the DPW installed the snow fence, as there are other branches that continue to be a concern. Additionally, a second tree was identified as a safety risk and marked with orange tape. The trees are currently scheduled to be pruned or removed this month. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to keep well away from the snow fence.
