I am writing in reference to the article published in last week’s edition of The Harvard Press about Annual Town Meeting warrant Article 31 (“Fervent debate dooms erosion control bylaw again,” May 10, 2019). I want to clarify that while I was opposed to the proposed erosion control bylaw, I do consider erosion to be an important topic.
With the average lot size in Harvard being 3.76 acres, coupled with established regulations and site standard requirements, imposing new regulations on homeowners due to instances of poor enforcement isn’t the answer. I think education for residents would be a better option for our community. I and the Agricultural Commission are committed to helping facilitate education and promote best management practices to prevent erosion.
