After putting up a good fight, the Bromfield boys varsity lacrosse team fell to the Tyngsborough Tigers 10-6 May 13 at Tyngsborough High School’s home field. The game was close and the Trojan offense and defense both had a chance to prove themselves. Each team also had something extra to prove, as the Tyngsborough coach, Dan Joyce, had coached Bromfield’s teams prior to Coach Patrick Fredericksen’s appointment.

The Trojans’ offense was on the move in the first quarter. Maynard attacker Sam Hills and Ayer Shirley attacker Joey Robinson played aggressively and found many opportunities to score, but came up empty. Right from the first face-off, Bromfield was up by the Tigers’ goal and took a shot on net, but Tyngsborough intercepted the ball and took it back down the field for a shot on Bromfield’s goal. Bromfield freshman goalkeeper Logan Reed saved the shot and passed it up to the defense, who passed it up to Bromfield senior midfielder Ian Miller, who attempted a shot that was saved by the goalie. The ball continued to go back and forth for the remainder of the quarter until Tyngsborough scored with three minutes left. The first quarter ended 1-0.

The second quarter brought more back-and-forth action, but this time goals were frequent. Immediately after the quarter began, Tyngsborough took the ball up past Bromfield’s defense and scored. Bromfield recovered and three minutes later, Hills sent the ball flying into the net with an assist from Robinson. Seventh-grade Bromfield midfielder Max Laursen scored Bromfield’s second goal five minutes after Hills’ goal, with an assist from Ayer Shirley eighth-grade attacker Greg Canning. Tyngsborough responded with a third goal and the quarter ended 3-2.
The Trojans’ defense was most active in the third and fourth quarters when the Tigers scored the majority of their goals. Parker defender Henry Fredericksen held Tyngsborough’s top scorer, Mitch Anderson, to a single goal. Tyngsborough got ahead and scored a string of four goals beginning at the five-minute mark. Bromfield’s offense pushed forward, scoring four more goals in the last quarter. Robinson sent the ball flying into the net twice and scored one assist. Hills added an assist to his one goal. Bromfield midfielder Dallas Briggs-Adams powered through Tyngsborough’s midfielder and defense to send the ball soaring into the net once again. Maynard midfielder Aiden Young had an additional goal, bringing Bromfield to its final goal count of six. Tyngsborough scored three additional goals, bringing its final score to 10.
The next game is Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. Bromfield will face Nashua South on its home field in New Hampshire.
