The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts (GSCWM) elected four new members, including three Girl Scouts, to the board of directors April 7. One of those is 15-year-old Sophie Thompson of Jacobs Gate Road. Thompson is a Bromfield sophomore who is currently in her 10th year as a Girl Scout. She earned her Girl Scout Silver Award with a project to build a give-and-take book shed at the Transfer Station. Sophie has also set her sights on becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout. She has undertaken a community service project where she collected 1,000 books and donated them to the Boston Medical Center’s Reach Out and Read program. Thompson is the treasurer for her class, a member of the school math team, an apprentice at a summer art camp, and a member of the teen advisory board at Harvard Public Library. Thompson plays the flute in a local youth orchestra, and she has won state and national art and writing awards.
