The next public hearing on the proposed Vicksburg Square redevelopment project will be April 17 at 7 p.m. in upper Town Hall, according to MassDevelopment Director of Land Planning and Permitting Ed Starzec.
Vicksburg Square is a set of century-old Army barracks located next to Rogers Field, the former Fort Devens parade ground. These large buildings are currently zoned for commercial use, but no business has shown interest in renovating them. The new plan would change zoning to allow for either commercial or residential use and would also allow the buildings to be torn down and replaced with modern construction if renovation proves impossible.
Starzec also announced the dates of hearings in Ayer, Shirley, and Devens. MassDevelopment aims to hold a Super Town Meeting to vote on the plan June 10.
