During the past week, police made three motor vehicle stops that resulted in one verbal warning and one written warning or citation. They responded to two calls for medical assistance, with one person being taken to the hospital. An officer tried to help someone who called about being locked out of a car, but the person evidently solved the problem and left before the officer arrived. Police also issued or renewed one firearms license.
Tuesday, Feb. 19
A caller reported a car accident on Bolton Road at 1:03 a.m. Police said the car slid in some snow, spun 180 degrees, went off the road, and struck a stone wall. No one was injured, but the car had to be towed. At 2:03 p.m. a 911 call took police to another accident, this one at the Prospect Hill overlook. While making a turn at an icy spot, the driver lost control and the car somehow went over or through a stone wall and a fence, ending up in the field at the overlook. The ambulance crew took one person to the hospital.
Wednesday, Feb. 20
At 2:20 p.m. a resident reported a suspected identity scam, saying someone had asked the resident’s credit card company to mail a replacement card to a Harvard address. In what may be a related case, police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who used a stolen credit card at a cash machine in Bolton. A security camera photo of the woman is on the Harvard Police Department Facebook page. At 3:40 p.m. a Mill Road resident called to say someone might have tried to open a package that had been delivered to the house; but it is possible the package had just been damaged in transit.
Thursday, Feb. 21
Someone called 911 from St. Benedict’s Abbey at 6:06 p.m. to report a car being driven erratically on Still River Road. Police looked for the car, but it had left the area.
Friday, Feb. 22
At 12:53 a.m. a Woodside Road resident called 911 about several loud noises from a nearby house. Upon investigating, an officer found that a neighbor had been taking out the trash very, very early. At 3:08 p.m. a Warren Avenue parent called 911 because a male driver in a van had asked the resident’s teenage daughter if she needed a ride. Police spoke with the driver, who was making deliveries in the area.

Sunday, Feb. 24
A car struck and killed a deer on Prospect Hill Road at 5:55 p.m. At 9:25 p.m. a caller told police about an unusual number of cars in the Holy Hill parking area, off South Shaker Road. An officer spoke with the drivers.
Monday, Feb. 25
From mid-morning until late at night, police received many calls about fallen trees, downed wires, and power outages caused by winds that gusted up to 50 miles per hour (see photo, page 1). Officers said some residents risked injury driving under trees that were leaning on electric wires or trying to drive on roads that police had closed. At least one tree—on Warren Avenue—caught fire from a downed power line. The high winds also set off many residential alarm systems.
