The holiday season was a busy one for Harvard police. Since Dec. 18, officers have responded to 22 reports of hazardous road conditions or fallen trees and wires. They have made 83 motor vehicle stops, 13 resulting in verbal warnings, 67 in written warnings or citations, and four in court summonses. Many of the stops were part of a “Click It or Ticket” safety program during the season’s heavy travel days.
Police assisted three motorists with disabled vehicles and one who was locked out of a car. Officers also responded to 26 medical emergencies, with 19 people being taken to a hospital, eight with Advanced Life Support on board. Police issued or renewed seven firearms licenses. And, in what may be a first for Harvard, they gave out a half-dozen or more parking tickets.

Wednesday, Dec. 19
Someone called at 6:49 p.m. to report lights flashing at a West Bare Hill Road residence. The officer determined that something—perhaps an animal—was activating the security lights.
Thursday, Dec. 20
At 2:11 p.m. a caller from the Holy Trinity Parish office reported a scamming email.
Friday, Dec. 21
A delivery driver came to the station at 3:47 p.m. to say he had been bitten by a dog but hadn’t needed medical treatment. The assistant animal control officer was informed.
Saturday, Dec. 15
At 7:34 a.m. police spoke with a Littleton County Road resident about a case of identity fraud. A caller at 2:53 p.m. reported large branches in the road near the post office. Police said the branches might have fallen off a truck after some tree work in the area, and an officer cleared them away.
Sunday, Dec. 22
A Littleton Road resident called at 4:16 p.m. to tell police that a package had been stolen from the doorstep.

Thursday, Dec. 27
At 8:11 p.m. on Route 2 eastbound, an officer stopped Rebecca Taft of Gardner for speeding and found she was driving with a suspended license; she received a summons to court and the vehicle was towed. At 11:26 p.m., also on Route 2 eastbound, John Cataldo of Malden failed to change lanes to give safe clearance to a stopped police car, which is a violation of the state’s Move Over law. He was subsequently found to be driving with a suspended license and given a summons.

Saturday, Dec. 29
At 2:23 p.m. on Ayer Road, an officer stopped Victor Valdez of Cranston, Rhode Island, for speeding and found his driver’s license had been suspended. Valdez received a summons. A passenger with a valid license took over the vehicle. At 7:04 p.m. a car struck a deer on Ayer Road.
Sunday, Dec. 30
A caller reported a disturbance at Fruitlands at 3:51 p.m. Two groups of youths got into what police described as a scuffle, and one person allegedly took out a knife. The matter is under investigation.
Monday, Dec. 31
An officer checked on a group of people under age 21 who were parked at the Prospect Hill overlook at 12:35 a.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 1
A passerby phoned at 10:40 a.m. to report that the Town Hall back door was blowing open. Police checked the building, found nothing amiss, and secured the door.
Wednesday, Jan. 2
A car rear-ended a DPW truck at 9:01 a.m. on Ayer Road near the post office. The operator of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was also cited for failure to stop; the car was towed.
Thursday, Jan. 3
A resident of Ann Lees Road called at 9:22 p.m. to say that four or five cars were parked near the athletic field, where a group of people was apparently hanging out; all vehicles were gone when police arrived.
Friday, Jan. 4
At 3:29 p.m. an officer stopped Kathryn Ann Hanson of Bolton for speeding on Bolton Road. She was also driving without a license in a car without a valid inspection sticker; she was issued a summons. At 11:33 p.m. an officer told a group of young men at the Prospect Hill overlook that they were trespassing. The area is closed after dark.
Saturday, Jan. 5
At 10:51 a.m. a caller reported a fender bender that had taken place during the week at the Bromfield School. The parties had failed to exchange information at the time, and police assisted them in doing so. Around noon the police issued a number of parking tickets to cars that were parked in unsafe locations at an estate sale on Bolton Road.
