Police made two motor vehicle stops this week, issuing verbal warnings to both drivers. Officers also helped one person with a disabled vehicle and another who was locked out of a car. They responded to eight medical emergencies, and the ambulance squad took eight people to the hospital, seven with Advanced Life Support on board. Police issued or renewed two firearm licenses. During the week’s high winds, residents made 10 calls about downed trees, branches, or wires, and police referred the incidents to the Department of Public Works and to National Grid as needed.
Tuesday, Oct. 30
At 6:26 a.m. a caller reported a two-car collision on Route 2 eastbound, which Harvard officers referred to the state police. Harvard police also helped arrange a tow for one of the damaged vehicles. Police were called to an Ayer Road business at 5:04 p.m. about a dispute that led to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon against an Acton man. The man was not arrested, but felony charges were filed in Clinton District Court.
Wednesday, Oct. 31
A Littleton County Road resident called at 4:42 p.m. to say someone had rung his doorbell and then run off—perhaps a Halloween trick. At 1:35 p.m. someone on East Bare Hill Road reported roof work at a neighbor’s house that might possibly be a scam, but police concluded the work seemed legitimate. At 5:55 p.m. a Bowers Road resident told police that two men had rung the doorbell and presented themselves as police officers. Asked for identification, one of them held up a badge, but then they left.
Thursday, Nov. 1
At 10:43 a.m. someone turned in credit cards found on the Common. Police have been unable to reach the owner, and the cards will be held at the station until the end of this month, then destroyed. A caller from Woodchuck Hill Road at 11:13 a.m. reported a trailer blocking the road, but it was moved before police arrived. At 2:04 p.m. police spoke with a West Bare Hill Road resident who had been targeted in a case of identity theft. This case was one of several resulting from a new scam in the West Bare Hill neighborhood involving thefts from mailboxes. Police said the thief may have driven a white car with New York plates, but residents should promptly report any suspicious activity at their mailbox, because the perpetrator could have rented a different vehicle.
Friday, Nov. 2
In a community policing activity, an officer taught a personal safety class at the Bromfield School. At 6:14 p.m. someone on Still River Road called with a complaint about a solar panel vendor who was soliciting business door to door.
Saturday, Nov. 3
At 9:59 a.m. officers spoke with another West Bare Hill Road resident about the identity theft cases in the neighborhood. A caller at 10:12 a.m. alerted police to a car crash on Route 2 eastbound, and the Harvard Fire Department responded. In the midst of high winds, an Ayer Road resident called police when a fallen branch from a neighbor’s tree damaged two cars belonging to the caller. An officer explained that the damage was an insurance issue, not a police matter. At 11:58 p.m. someone called about an erratic driver on Warren Avenue, but police did not locate the car.
Sunday, Nov. 4
A Poor Farm Road resident called at 9:23 a.m. to say that someone had driven over her lawn during the night, but police theorized the driver was confused and the damage was accidental. Several times during the afternoon, a caller reported young people climbing over the wall at the Prospect Hill Road overlook. An officer spoke to the youths and advised them to enjoy the good weather somewhere else.
Monday, Nov. 5
At 9:13 a.m. someone reported cars speeding on Whitney Road; police said detours set up because of filming in town center may have led to increased traffic on that road. In a pretrial hearing at Clinton District Court, charges against Joshua Fishbein of Ann Lees Road stemming from a Sept.18 incident were dismissed. At 9:11 p.m. a car belonging to an Ayer Road resident slid off the road and into a ditch; police arranged for the car to be winched out.
