The Bromfield girls soccer team won against Maynard, 3-1, but fell to Algonquin, 5-2, last week. The girls finished first in the Mid-Wach D League with a record of 5-0-1.
On Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Trojans battled the Maynard Tigers, home at Harvard Park. Senior co-captain Courtney Route and sophomores Bella and Olivia Kehoe each had one goal. Tiger Ali Roche scored her team’s only goal. This was the Trojans’ last Mid-Wach D League game of the season and earned them the title of league champions. Maynard trails in third place with an overall record of 3-7-3, and a Mid-Wach D League record of 3-4-0.
The Trojans suffered their second loss of the season at Algonquin. The game took place in Northborough. Olivia Kehoe and junior Caroline Mara each scored a goal for Bromfield, but the Tomahawks dominated with five. Algonquin is second in the Mid-Wach A League with a league record of 3-2-0 and an overall record of 9-4-3.
“I think our biggest competition coming up is Sutton if we [meet] them in the playoffs,” Route said. “We got kicked out of playoffs last year by them, but this year, I think we can do it!” Sutton is currently first in the Dual Valley League with an overall record of 11-2-1.
Route is optimistic about her team’s chances. “This team is one of the closest teams I have been a part of, and I think it shows on the field.” She said that if the team played as well as they’ve played throughout the season, “we can definitely make states.”
Bromfield’s next game is against Hudson, Thursday, Oct. 25. Hudson currently stands at the bottom of the Mid-Wach C League with an overall 6-7-2 record.
