It’s cherry season in Harvard. Pick them yourself at Carlson Orchards or stop by Westward Orchards for already-picked. Harvard’s sweet cherries are similar to Bing cherries but smaller and a bit more tart. The local cherry season is short, usually late June through mid-July, so enjoy while you can.
Carlson Orchards, 115 Oak Hill Road
Pick-your-own sweet cherries will start by July 7; check the Facebook page for a possible earlier start date. Some of last year’s apples still available in the store. Brookdale Fruit Farm strawberries, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, and white onions available in the store.
Old Frog Pond Farm, 38 Eldridge Road
Pick-your-own organic strawberries on weekends only, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jam, garlic scapes, and rhubarb at the self-serve stand in front of the house, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Mondays.
Westward Orchards, 178 Mass. Ave.
Cherries (both sweet and sour), strawberries, rhubarb, lettuce, kale, bok choy, Swiss chard, summer squash, zucchini, broccoli, and dill.
Willard Farm, 218 Still River Road
Some plants still available, including sweet pepper, tomato, and parsley.
