Learn about basic food safety in the home Tuesday, June 5, at 12:30 p.m. Guest speaker is Denise Mercury, a registered dietician and nutritionist.
Let’s go to the movies!
On Monday, June 11, at 1 p.m. in Volunteers Hall, see a feature-length drama directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. The film portrays the partnership of Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham and publisher Ben Bradlee as they expose a cover-up of government secrets.
What do we know about medical marijuana?
Many researchers are continuing to explore the possible uses of marijuana for medical treatment of pain, inflammation, and mental health disorders. On Tuesday, June 12, at 12:30 p.m. local farmer Lucas Thayer will share his knowledge on this subject.
Come to the annual ice cream social
Come enjoy an ice cream sundae and visit with old and new friends at the COA’s annual ice cream social Wednesday, June 13, at 4 p.m. on the Hildreth House porch. Doug and Dee Lee will serve the ice cream, and Debbie’s band “Side Effects” will provide live music. No charge; sign up by June 6.
Police to host pizza party for seniors
All Harvard seniors and volunteers are invited to a pizza party on the Hildreth House porch hosted by the Harvard Police Association Thursday, June 14, at 2 p.m. There will be pizza, salad, and cold drinks compliments of Harvard’s finest. Sign up by June 7 for this event.
‘Being Mortal’
“Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande is a sensitive examination of how Americans cope with decline and mortality. Come to Hildreth House Tuesday, June 19, at 1 p.m. for a book discussion led by Kathy Benson of Nashoba Nursing and COA Outreach Coordinator Charlotte Winchell. And on Thursday, June 21, at 1 p.m. watch a TED Talk presentation by Gawande.
Have lunch at Fruitlands!
Enjoy lunch with the COA at the Fruitlands Museum Café Wednesday, June 20. The van ($1 fee) will leave Hildreth House at 11 a.m. Space is limited.
Podiatry clinic
The COA will host a podiatry clinic Monday, June 25. Call to schedule an appointment with podiatrist Ayleen Gregorian. The fee is $35.
