The police made 44 traffic stops during the week, issuing 38 tickets, several in support of a national “Click It or Ticket” campaign to enforce state seat belt laws. They also responded to five medical emergencies, resulting in the transport by ambulance of four people to area hospitals, one with Advanced Life Support. Officers also processed two applications for firearms licenses.
Tuesday, May 15
At 4:56 p.m. police responded to a report that a burglar alarm had detected motion inside an unoccupied Bolton Road residence. Police requested backup but found that although the front door was open, nothing inside was amiss.
Wednesday, May 16
A Littleton Road resident notified police at 8:05 a.m. that a branch had fallen on a nearby power line. National Grid was notified and later, at 9:59 a.m., requested an officer to direct traffic as it dealt with the problem. At 8:48 p.m. a worker leaving a professional building on Ayer Road called police to report seeing an unfamiliar black pickup truck parked in the lot. An officer investigated and determined that the truck belonged to another employee.
Thursday, May 17
Someone on Ayer Road called 911 at 11:16 a.m. to complain that another person was spreading unwanted manure on the caller’s property. An officer went to the scene and told the individuals involved that the disagreement was a civil matter for them to solve. A Stow Road resident called police at 1:05 p.m. to say that someone in a neighboring apartment was making too much noise. An officer spoke to both parties. At 4:22 a.m. a Pinnacle Road resident called 911 to report that a passing truck had accidentally dropped a pile of manure on the road. DPW was called. The responding officer noted that the mess was cleaned up, but the smell remained.
Friday, May 18
An Old Littleton Road resident called 911 at 6:47 a.m. to report that an unfamiliar gold-colored Mazda with tape on its bumper had been in her driveway and then taken off. The caller said the car had appeared at the same time the previous day. An officer was notified. An officer checked the bathhouse at Bare Hill Pond beach after someone called at 6:58 a.m. to report it had been broken into. The officer found that the door had been damaged, but nothing appeared to have been stolen. At 7:17 p.m. a Prospect Hill resident reported finding in her yard a statue of a small girl holding a rabbit. The caller did not think it was hers, but police said no theft of such an object had been reported in town.
Saturday, May 19
A worried parent called at 12:30 a.m., concerned that a 19-year-old son had not yet returned home. Later, the West Bare Hill Road resident informed police that he had been found. He had taken a job at a Taco Bell restaurant but had failed to tell his parents. At 11:36 p.m. someone alerted police that an unfamiliar vehicle had been parked on Murray Lane for more than 30 minutes. An officer spoke to the two occupants and asked them to move on.
Sunday, May 20
Shortly after midnight, police were informed that a red Honda had gone off the road and was stuck in mud near the intersection of Prospect Hill and Depot roads. The driver was ticketed. Verizon was informed that a guy wire attached to one of its poles might have been damaged. The car was towed and its three teenage occupants driven home. An hour later, at 12:59 a.m., a second car trying to pass a Verizon truck at the site also slipped off the road. That driver was ticketed and the car was towed. At 1:19 a.m. an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle parked at the Prospect Hill Road overlook. The occupants were asked to move on. Someone called 911 at 7:55 a.m. to report a downed tree on Tahanto Trail in the vicinity of Warren Avenue. An officer went to the scene and moved it out of the way. A caller alerted police at 1:37 p.m. that some teenagers were playing in the road at the Ayer Road Route 2 overpass. An officer spoke with them, called their parents, and later drove one of them to the General Store.
Monday, May 21
An East Bare Hill Road resident called at 8:01 a.m. to say she suspected her mail was being stolen. An officer told her to report her concerns to the post office. At 9:11 p.m. a caller alerted police to the presence of a disabled vehicle on Murray Lane. Units patrolling the area were advised of its presence. Someone reported at 2:24 p.m. that a landscaping truck had spilled some of its load near Madigan Lane on Still River Road. DPW was notified. At 3:43 p.m. an East Bare Hill Road homeowner told police that some lawn furniture had been removed from the property. The resident had temporarily moved the items—chairs and a glass-topped wicker table—to a stone wall next to the road to do some landscaping. Police speculated that a passerby assumed it was free for the taking. Police were informed by a 911 caller at 5:48 p.m. that a boat had become lodged on a rock near the pump house at Bare Hill Pond. When an officer arrived, the boaters had already freed their vessel.
