At the Nov. 6, 2017, Special Town Meeting, the town got conflicting financial advice on Article 7, the old library renovation, from the Finance Committee and the Capital Planning and Investment Committee (CPIC). Fincom recommended against the renovation project while CPIC supported it. Which committee was the town supposed to believe?
Financial issues are often complicated, and the town deserves the best financial advice stated as simply as possible. I want financial advice from one committee at Town Meeting, one clear voice, with a rationale for each proposed finance article, whether operational or capital.
Perhaps it’s time to consider a single standing financial committee with a subcommittee dedicated to capital planning?
