Longtime resident, naturopathic doctor, avid gardener
Janet (Nootsie) K. Beaty, N.D., 68, a longtime resident of Harvard and summer resident of Hague, New York, died July 18, 2017, at Elizabethtown Community Hospital while vacationing in the Adirondacks.
Dr. Beaty graduated from Lake Forest College in Illinois, pursued a Master of Arts degree in special education at San Francisco State University, and earned a doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr College in Seattle, Washington, in 1988. She then did a year’s residency at Bastyr, followed by a year at the Tyringham Clinic in Buckinghamshire, England.
She settled in the Concord area, where she ran a private practice for more than 25 years, offering hope to individuals who felt traditional medicine had failed them. Translating this compassion into political action through membership in both the Massachusetts Society of Naturopathic Doctors (MSND) and the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Dr. Beaty fought for licensure for naturopathic doctors in Massachusetts, which was achieved in January 2017, much to her delight and satisfaction.
She was an avid gardener, whose flowering bushes and lush garden beds became an expression of her abiding love of nature.
Dr. Beaty is survived by three brothers; her nephew, James; and her beloved dog, Polly.
