If you’re heading to Willard Farm for a pound of tomatoes, you won’t need a bag. Many of Willard’s tomatoes are weighing in at a hefty pound to a pound and a quarter these days. When asked why they’re so big, Willard said they were grown with “special care.” Whatever the reason, they’re gigantic and delicious as ever.
Carlson Orchards, 115 Oak Hill Road
Pick-your-own blueberries, peaches, and Ginger Gold apples; possibly pick-your-own raspberries by the weekend. Peaches, nectarines, and Paula Red, Ginger Gold, and early McIntosh apples in the store, as well as Brookdale Fruit Farm’s corn, tomatoes, green and wax beans, green peppers, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, and organic cherry tomatoes.
Doe Orchards, 327 Ayer Road
Pick-your-own peaches. Peaches, Gravenstein and Ginger Gold apples, and honey at the stand. Blueberry jam and sunflowers also at the stand while they last.
Old Frog Pond Farm, 38 Eldridge Road
Apples, Asian pears, peaches, tomatoes, picked raspberries, and jam at the self-service farmstand on the front porch. All crops certified organic by Baystate Certified.
Westward Orchards, 178 Massachusetts Avenue
Peaches, nectarines, strawberries, Ginger Gold and early McIntosh apples, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melons, tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, leeks, lettuce, peppers (sweet and hot), eggplant, cabbage, celery, carrots, beans, Swiss chard, kale, summer squash, zucchini, beets, Brussel sprouts, broccoli, shallots, and mixed herbs in the store.
