Summer Music Explorers
For students ages 5-9
July 10-14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Planting the seeds for a lifetime of music making! Learn the basics of musicianship through theory, rhythm and brain games, story time, listening exercises, instrument classes,and more. Daily ensemble with music specially selected to accommodate all beginner levels. (Impromptu performance of the ensemble at the end of the day on Friday, July 14.)
For children who have just begun learning a musical instrument or who have taken music classes at school or in an early childhood program. Before/after care available.
Summer Day Music
For students ages 8-15+, grouped by age and skill level
July 24-August 4, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Performances: Thursday, August 3, 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; Friday, August 4, 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Learn, play, and share music together, and discover the diverse world of music! Daily classes include essential instruction in technique, theory, and musicianship, plus loads of fun electives (grouped by age and skill level) to boost creativity and to explore new instruments and musical styles. Choose from ukelele, African drumming, an iPad ensemble, “Drawing Music,” yoga, and many more. Open to students with two or more years of private lessons or equivalent experience.
Stage It! DIY Musical Revue
For students ages 8-15, grouped by age and skill level
July 10-21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Add-on Workshop July 5-7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The spotlight is on YOU in this interactive do-it-yourself musical revue! In just ten days, students will write, act, and produce an original musical revue, “jukebox musical” style, under the guidance of professional actors, dancers, and musicians. Each student will be placed in one or more ensemble scenes selected to showcase his or her talents — students get to choose their level of involvement in the show.
This unique program seeks to empower young people through educating them in the skills of performing on stage – singing, dancing, acting, creating, and producing. The skills learned in StageIt! DIY Musical Revue will benefit any student who participates in musical theater productions in their schools and communities. Students will be grouped in classes/rehearsals by skill level and age (elementary, middle school, high school).
Summer Jams
For students ages 10-14
July 10-21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Concert Friday, July 21, at 6 p.m.
Are you ready to rock?! Summer Jams offers aspiring rockers and musicians with some experience a chance to perform in a group with new friends, play songs by your favorite artists or work on your own original songs. Learn recording basics under the guidance of instructor Joey Pierog, a professional touring musician, and other members of our talented faculty. Open to guitar, bass, keyboard, drums*, and voice students. One year of lessons or equivalent experience recommended.
Each day includes band practice, instrument technique classes, electives (songwriting, recording, music business, listening and analysis classes, and more), faculty spotlight performances and masterclasses, and a combined jam band of all program participants. Take the stage in a final concert for family and friends.
Chamber Music Intensive
For advanced string, flute, and piano students by audition, teens through college age
August 7-11, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Concert Saturday, August 12 at 4 p.m.
Raise your artistry with this challenging immersion program for aspiring young musicians. Hone your individual and ensemble playing skills and polish your repertoire through coaching sessions, guided practice time, and masterclasses with distinguished teaching artists.
Summer Night Music
For adults
Meet & Greet: Wednesday, July 5, 6:30-7 p.m.
July 5 – August 16, 6:30 to 7 p.m.
Concerts Wednesday, August 16 at 8 p.m. and Thursday, August 17, at 7 p.m.
It’s your time to play! Engage with your peers in a fun and challenging ensemble program for amateur adult musicians, in a relaxed setting. Work on musicality, listening, and balance with our accomplished teacher artists. Participants will have the opportunity to play in two ensembles (trios, quartets, quintets) personally selected to match the musicians’ skill level and style preferences.Open to intermediate-advanced strings, winds, piano, harp, and guitar. While chamber music experience is not required, participants should have strong technical, rhythmic, and reading skills.
