The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts honored this year’s Silver and Gold Award recipients with a ceremony June 22 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.
Members of Harvard’s Troop 30892 were honored with the Silver Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. The award demands 50-plus hours done by each girl, which the troop achieved through their work with Community Harvest Project in Harvard and raising awareness of hunger in our area.
The Community Harvest Project includes a large orchard on Prospect Hill Road that donates produce to the Worcester Community Food Bank. The girls made a film that aired on Harvard Cable TV featuring the staff and explaining the work done at the Community Harvest Project.
The girls also ran a public Awareness Day at the Prospect Hill orchard and coordinated apple donations to Kylee’s Kare Kits in Leominster, which provides backpacks of nutritious weekend snacks to school children in Leominster.
